GMAR Committees

See below for descriptions of our various committees. Visit the calendar to see when committees meet. Click here to apply to be on a committee next year. Applications for new committee members are reviewed in Q4 of each year. Those who are accepted begin their commitment January 1.

Affiliate Committee

The Affiliate committee exists to enhance GMAR's value to members and support the Realtor community by sharing Affiliates' real estate related expertise through educational programming and networking opportunities. The Affiliate committee promotes the relationship between Affiliates and REALTORS® by providing member organizations exposure to GMAR members.

Diversity Committee

Our nation and neighborhoods are becoming increasingly diverse. REALTORS® seek to work effectively with all clients to assist them in achieving the dream of home ownership. The Diversity Committee seeks to expand the knowledge and sensitivity of REALTORS® to diversity and inclusiveness issues, offering education about Fair Housing and cultural sensitivity. The Committee also seeks to encourager leadership among its diverse members.

  • Promoting equal opportunity in housing and diversity within the real estate industry
  • Encouraging members to learn about diversity and fair housing and identify opportunities for doing so.
  • Promoting changes in real estate business practices to reflect the growing cultural diversity within the REALTOR® Community.
  • Encouraging broader minority member participation in the association and in its leadership.
  • Sharing diversity knowledge, expertise, analysis and information with members.
  • Promoters of fair housing.

Financial Planning Committee

Responsible for reviewing the budget and financial policies of the Association. The committee recommends policies for the investment of funds, monitors monthly statements and reviews requests for non-budget items that other committees submit for approval.

Government Affairs Committee

Encourages member awareness and participation in legislative and political activities. Activities include monitoring policy issues that affect the real estate industry and personal property rights at the federal, state, and local level.  The committee also conducts candidate interviews in state and local races, making recommendations for support and endorsement.

Grievance Committee

Reviews all ethics complaints and requests for arbitration for potential hearings before the Professional Standards Committee. Prerequisite: At least five years as a full time real estate licensee (MI or other state) and as a REALTOR® of a board or Association of REALTORS® (the most recent two years must be as a member of this Association) or the equivalent as recognized by the Chair. Mandatory training is provided for all committee members.

Member Engagement Committee

Primary goals include developing ways to better provide to the membership and enhancing the REALTOR® image in the community. These are accomplished through planning and carrying out membership and charitable events such as the annual Golf Outing and Holiday Party.

Placemaking Committee

GMAR provides Placemaking grants of various sizes to partnerships between Realtors® and local governments. As a place becomes desirable, properties around the place increase in value. Placemaking in a nutshell is an economic driver. The committee meets to review, approve, and enforce grant applications.

REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC)

The only grassroots and issues mobilizing force that exists to protect and promote the tradition of home ownership and real estate investment. The committee continuously strives to raise funds in order to support candidates that support home ownership and property rights.

Technology Committee

The GMAR Technology Committee works to improve Association technology for the benefit of the membership.

Young Professionals Network (YPN)

YPN helps young real estate professionals excel in their careers by giving them the tools and encouragement to become involved in four core areas:

  • REALTOR® associations. Attend REALTOR® conferences and pursue leadership roles with their local, state, and national associations.
  • Real estate industry. Take an active role in policy discussions and advocacy issues; be informed about the latest industry news and trends.
  • Peers. Network and learn from one another by attending events, participating in online communication, and seeking out mentoring opportunities.
  • Community. Become exceptional members of their community by demonstrating a high level of REALTOR® professionalism and volunteering for causes they feel passionate about.
